Okay, so I've been really into Sleep Token's music since like last July. I heard Take Me Back To Eden, went 'wow this is very 501st-Darman-core,' and then started dipping into the rest of their discography. I knew there was some sort of lore, but I never really explored it, I just vibed with the music. I've never really been one to get into Band Lore or really care much about celebrities in general.

Well, their newest album, Even In Arcadia, is coming out, and uh.

Holy Shit

This is some good shit. Wow. Sleep Token is a totally anonymous band- they have been doxxed, but the fan community holds a strong taboo against discussing the member's identities at all. The front man, vocalist, and the member credited for all the instruments except the drums in the studio recordings is known only as Vessel I, referred to simply as Vessel.

And guys. I fear Vessel's whole Thing is my exact shit. Oh my god. Dude has a full face mask, long hooded robe, titties OUT. All exposed skin covered in black body paint. Lovely voice. He's had ITERATIONS of the mask, god damn it. His forearms are exposed. He caresses his mic stand sometimes. His identity is a total unknown, he is only this MASSIVELY slutty and attractive persona.

I'm. Yeah. Say no more.

The only other permanent member of Sleep Token is officially Vessel II, but really only known as II/Two. He's the drummer, and sometimes the other members put silly hats on him. Incredible.

There are also Vessel III and Vessel IV (nicknamed Ivy). They seem to be liveshow only members and may have been different people over the band's 9-year career.

Overall, just the members slap ass. That's incredible. They all wear masks. II gave an interview ONE time and they put an effect over his voice to disguise it. In their entire career they've given like maybe 3 interviews total and been INCREDIBLY vague about everything. Fuck yes.

Sleep Token has a lot of lore, except it doesn't. All the complicated stuff is fan theories. The actual confirmed lore isn't that complicated.

-Sleep is an ancient deity, largely forgotten by mankind, who appeared to Vessel in a dream. Sleep Token frames their performances as worship to Sleep, referring to their concerts as rituals, and mentioning 'worship' and 'offerings' a lot. I both absolutely love the concept of a forgotten god, and am also slightly squirmy about the worship thing, but that's just my evangelical christian childhood talking, and even the discomfort I feel is interesting to me.

-There's something going on with a post-apocalyptic world where the moon broke open and something came out of it, referred to as The Lunar Anomaly. The moon's orbit has destabilized. Some kind of alien life has infected earth. To look upon the moon is to die. A remnant of humanity has survived by hiding underground. There's a graphic novel that I haven't finished reading yet called Teeth of God. The album art for Take Me Back To Eden shows the moon with something tendrily coming out of the southern pole. What does this have to do with their music? BEATS ME BUT THAT'S RAD AS HELL MAN

-The fanart totally slaps ass. Here are some of my favorites:
Vessel in his green Even In Arcadia fit, the green robe merged with the background
Fuckin adorable chibi Even In Arcadia Vessel with a sword
Vessel as a winged stone statue in overgrown ruins
Take Me Back To Eden era Vessel with wings and two swords fuck yeah
Red (Take Me Back To Eden) Vessel with his robe merged with the background and shadows dripping from his hands

Also the music just straight up rules. The lyrics go so hard. The instrumentals are so so sexy. People get really into analyzing the music, which is cool, but really I don't need anything else. Like are you seeing this shit?? This goes SO UNBELIEVABLY HARD.
